Sometimes you stumble across an album that just clicks immediately, and Find A Love That Brings You Home was one of those discoveries for me. Johnson & Finnemore have created something that honors country music’s best traditions while feeling completely contemporary and relevant.
The partnership between these musicians really shines throughout the record. Johnson’s pedal steel work creates these gorgeous atmospheric textures that frame Finnemore’s vocals perfectly. His dobro playing adds this vintage character that grounds their sound in country tradition, while his guitar work provides both rhythmic support and memorable melodic moments.
Finnemore’s approach to songwriting immediately won me over. He writes about universal experiences like love, relationships, and finding home in ways that feel specific and personal rather than generic. His vocal delivery matches the lyrical content beautifully, conveying emotion without ever feeling calculated or manipulative.
The guest appearances throughout the album enhance the core duo’s vision rather than overshadowing it. Hannah Johnson’s vocals on “The Gun” create compelling musical dialogue, while the contributions from experienced professionals like Julian Littman and Charlie Dore add gravitas and polish.
The album’s emotional arc works really well, moving from searching and uncertainty toward finding love and home. “Babybird” sits perfectly within this progression, celebrating romantic discovery with this gorgeous country waltz arrangement that features Johnson’s beautiful pedel steel work alongside traditional strings.
What strikes me about the production is how organic everything sounds. The supporting musicians, including Buzz Bywater on bass, Liam Grundy on keyboards, and Howard Gregory on fiddle, create solid foundations without ever overwhelming the songs themselves.
“Ride High” demonstrates their ability to incorporate blues influences while maintaining their country identity. The track’s laid back groove and uplifting message about supporting important people in your life creates this perfect combination of musical sophistication and emotional authenticity.
Seeing this album chart in the official UK records chart at number 47 was incredibly satisfying. It proves that thoughtful, well crafted country music can still find an audience beyond the usual Nashville bubble. Johnson & Finnemore deserve every bit of this success, and I hope it opens doors for more artists making music with this level of integrity and craftsmanship.
This is exactly the kind of country music I’ve been hoping to hear more of: thoughtful, well crafted, and genuinely moving without being manipulative. It’s going straight into my favorites playlist.
