philojain – Riff Raff

Amit Jain’s solo project philojain returns with “Riff Raff,” an instrumental track that wastes absolutely no time making its presence known. From the first second, it hits hard, a guitar-driven force powered by sub-bass thick enough to rattle your walls and sink straight into your chest.

Drawing inspiration from the weight of Pantera and Lamb of God, the unpredictability of Faith No More, and the atmospheric sprawl of Pink Floyd, Jain doesn’t simply imitate his influences. Instead, “Riff Raff” lands somewhere between post-rock, progressive metal, and experimental soundscapes, carving out a lane that feels entirely its own.

The guitars arrive in relentless waves. Riff stacks upon riff, building into a towering wall of sound that feels both aggressive and hypnotic. Meanwhile, the sub-bass refuses to stay in the background, it growls underneath everything, forming a physical, almost seismic foundation that you don’t just hear, you feel.

What really makes the track compelling is its refusal to play by the rules. Just as you settle into one groove, it shifts direction. Technical, high-speed passages suddenly give way to slow, crushing power chords that feel heavy enough to split concrete. It keeps you guessing, constantly evolving, never predictable.

Stripped of vocals and distractions, “Riff Raff” is experimental rock at its most raw and focused. There’s nothing to hide behind, just pure musicianship and intensity. Jain handles every element himself, from instrumentation to production, and that creative freedom shows. The track breathes, stretches, and mutates naturally, unconfined by genre labels.
