Concrete Club – ‘People Like Us’

Concrete Club have been making waves in the Manchester underground for a reason, and “People Like Us” is precisely why. Released via Emu Bands, this new single does what great post-punk and indie rock should do: it grabs you immediately and doesn’t let go.

The opening hits you with a funky guitar line that’s equal parts swagger and substance. Within seconds, the drums kick in with real urgency, and when those melodic synths arrive, you realize the band knows exactly what they’re doing. This isn’t accidental arrangement work. Jonny McGill’s drumming brings a freshness to the track that feels essential to the whole thing, and you can feel it working from the first measure.

The song moves through different territories cleverly. You get these moments of real control and precision, then it shifts into something more intense and hypnotic. That groove builds and builds, becoming almost impossible to ignore. There’s an energy here that feels earned rather than manufactured.

It’s hard to imagine anyone involved with Manchester’s underground scene not understanding what Concrete Club are about. They’ve built their reputation on a raw, uncompromising approach, and “People Like Us” shows why that matters. In a landscape crowded with bands chasing sounds rather than making them, Concrete Club feel like they’re doing something that matters.
