‘Fool’ is a no-nonsense pop record from Tali Shear which comes with lyrics which do not mince.
Taking us onto her journey of love, the singer reveals all about her past encounters. She feels a fool from having been victim to a jock. Her smart words provide a massive sense of emotion and the music which accompanies follow suit.
It is the type of track you would listen to after a breakup. It has a gentle and innocent sound but yet the confidence within Tali’s vocals is awe-inspiring. Also, the music foundation adds even more sentiment to its already serious vibe. The piano adds a bold fundamental, and it is probably right that it is the only instrument making the mix apart from the drumbeat which arrives towards the end.
While staying genuine in her songwriting, Tali still finds a way to add a contemporary direction taking influence from the likes of Emile Sande and Adele. But, although, there is an apparent similarity to other pop tracks of this style, it still shines radiantly in its own realm, and it is hard to pinpoint a shelf for it to reside.
So, what are the overall highlights in this track? The chorus is bold, and it sticks out like a sore thumb but for the right reasons. Also, the meaning behind the record is relatable, and the approach which Tali takes is hard to fault. But, is it a song for all occasions? Probably not. I would not imagine it coming on at your friend’s pre-night out party. But, it is excellent for those chill intervals when you want to take a step back.
