Meg Lawrenson – Use My Body

One of the first tracks I ever heard from Meg Lawrenson was ‘Nicotine’. It blew me away, but her new record ‘Use My Body’ is blowing me away even further.

It comes with a different approach from the singer-songwriter. Here, Meg scraps the more subdued vibe and takes us more into a rocky space with an absolute colossal sounding introduction. The guitar lead truly flourishes within the opener, and its lead melody will lodge itself deep into your soul, well it did for me.

Vocally, ‘Use My Body’ follows a similar vibe to the artist’s backlog. She blends softly delivered vocals with nail biters, and her honesty is on full display, identical to what we have heard before in her other releases. Here, she sings about a past encounter with a loved one. She speaks with integrity, and she knows that sometimes regardless of what she does, some people will shoot off quicker than they came into the picture. I like her honesty. Also, she resonates well with many, including me who has been through what she has done too.

The verses are chill on this track; it is where we catch our breath ready for the anthemic choruses. The music and vocals take a step back although vocally Meg still puts a lot out. The chorus though is the real nitty-gritty with Meg hammering home her point with a hard and robust vocal technique. Also, the melody line within the chorus truly cements itself inside of us, leaving us itching for more.

Overall, a witty and heartfelt release is this one. It takes influence but not enough to make it a replica. Also, it proves the singer’s ability to mix up her sound when she needs to.
