Victoria Moralez is a pop name which is rising the ranks in the modern industry. She originally hails from Sweden but has been living in the UK now for several years; her sound appears to reflect this.
Musically, ‘Eyes Off The Prize’ is a breadwinner. It has a charismatic posture, and it takes us on a journey from the instant. Also, it leaves a lot open to the imagination while also being conspicuous with smart and nail-biting lyrics and a direction which is difficult to criticise.
It kicks off with a tapping drum hit which leaves us feeling the rhythm elevating through our veins. We are then with a mesmerising vocal performance from Victoria who gets her message across sharpish. She sings about wanting what you cannot necessarily have, and she hits home with a message which many will be able to resonate with, especially during these times of uncertainty in the COVID-19 pandemic.
The chorus is unconventional, but I like that. So much so, it is not your typical chorus with all guns blazing. It stays genuine to the track as a whole, and it does not change too much from the verse. However, I would have liked to have a little more variance between verse and chorus but yet the increase in tempo within the rhythm gives it the fluidity it craves and also prevents the arrangement from becoming overly repetitive.
Overall, it is a track which has plenty of meaning. It takes a unique path, and although often dark at times, it does provide us with a feel-good emotion. Also, the piercing quality from Victoria is awe-inspiring, and it leaves us itching for another fix.
