I did not expect to fall for a rock song on a Tuesday morning, but here we are. Vinyl Floor, the Copenhagen duo made up of brothers Daniel and Thomas Charlie Pedersen, have just dropped “I’m on the Upside” and honestly it caught me completely off guard in the best possible way.
It is uptempo, guitar forward, and warm in a way that feels genuinely lived in rather than manufactured to sound that way. You can tell these are people who grew up loving the kind of records where every note had a reason to be there.

Daniel Pedersen, the drummer, is the one singing. There is a directness to his voice that works really well here. Drummers tend to have a natural feel for where a song breathes and where it pushes, and you can actually hear that in the way he delivers the lyrics. He is not performing so much as just telling you something. Jakob Gulbrandt Koldenborg holds everything together on bass without ever drawing too much attention to himself, which is exactly what the song needs, and Daniel Hecht adds guitar that fills the space without crowding it.
Lyrically the song is about stepping back from the noise and being genuinely at peace with your own way of seeing things. It sounds simple when you say it like that, but the feeling behind it is real. It does not try too hard. It just sits with you.
